Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer is reportedly among the players Chelsea are targeting as they look to replace Antonio Rudiger.
A recent report from football.london has offered an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of a new centre-back. The Blues are currently in the market for an ideal replacement for Antonio Rudiger, with Gleison Bremer of Torino emerging as one of the potential options.
With reports almost confirming Rudiger’s impending move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, Real Madrid are in for a tough summer ahead, where they will have to find a replacement, not just for one but two key central defenders.
In addition to Rudiger, after all, the Blues are also set to lose Andreas Christensen. The Dane is poised to join FC Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season, causing a massive void in Chelsea’s defensive unit.
In an attempt to mitigate the crisis, Chelsea are exploring the market for a top-quality centre-back. They have been linked with a move for French internationals Presnel Kimpembe and Jules Kounde while recently being offered the opportunity to sign Napoli’s experienced defensive stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly.
But it appears Thomas Tuchel is studying the option of Gleison Bremer as well. The 25-year-old Brazilian might not be the flashiest of options in the market, as far as Chelsea’s defensive targets are concerned. But he has enjoyed immense success with Torino this season.
The centre-back has indeed established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A. Bremer has impressed the onlookers with his leadership, coupled with his technical ability and aggression. It has made him an appealing target for Chelsea, with Tuchel currently in the market for a left-footed centre-back.
Bremer, to that end, could prove to be an interesting option. The 25-year-old Brazilian can serve as a direct replacement for Rudiger on the left-hand side of the back three. His experience and leadership could be useful in laying the groundwork and helping the likes of Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah develop into reliable first-team stars.
Signing Bremer from Torino could be tricky, though, for Chelsea. While the Serie A outfit could be open to offloading the defender in the summer, the 25-year-old has been courted by several clubs across Europe, including Premier League rivals Leicester City, Liverpool and Tottenham.
It could make the operation just a bit trickier for Chelsea, who are staring at an uncertain future ahead due to the prospect of having new owners dictating the terms following two decades of success under Roman Abramovich.
