Chelsea have reportedly set an asking price of €75 million on Romelu Lukaku, who is being eyed by Bayern Munich as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
According to Sky Germany, Chelsea are set to demand a transfer fee of €75 million for club-record signing Romelu Lukaku, who has emerged as a transfer target for Bayern Munich ahead of the summer window.
Lukaku returned to Chelsea last summer, eight years after leaving the club for Everton. The Belgian international cost the Blues a record transfer fee of €113 million after enjoying an immensely successful 2020/21 season for Inter Milan, during which he led them to the Serie A title.
However, his second coming at Stamford Bridge has hardly gone according to plan as Lukaku has struggled to get going at Chelsea. The 28-year-old striker has netted just five goals in 23 Premier League matches in 2021/22 and has an overall tally of only 12 strikes from 40 matches across all competitions.
Lukaku has fallen behind Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in the pecking order of things under Thomas Tuchel and was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s recent defeat to Everton in the Premier League. With things not working out for the Belgian international, he could be on the move in the summer, with Tuchel keen on offloading the striker.
A move to former club Inter Milan has been mooted heavily, but Bayern Munich have also entered the fray as a potential suitor for Lukaku in the summer. The German champions are currently in a contract stalemate with superstar Robert Lewandowski, whose current deal runs out next year.
The 33-year-old Poland international is keen on securing an exit from the Allianz Arena amid strong interest from Barcelona. And even though Bayern Munich have been maintaining that they will not sell Lewandowski, they are preparing for the eventuality that the legendary goalscorer moves on.
And, Lukaku has emerged as one of the prospective replacements for Lewandowski at Bayern Munich. However, for Die Roten to sign the striker, they will have to shell out a massive sum of €75 million to Chelsea. That valuation will potentially rule the German giants out of the running to sign the Belgian hitman.
Bayern Munich are also looking at Lukaku’s Chelsea teammate, Timo Werner. However, a move for the German international looks unlikely as the club officials are split over his suitability to fill in the shoes that would be left vacant by Lewandowski’s departure. It remains to be seen if the Bavarian giants are ready to take the next step in their pursuit of Lukaku or Werner or look at other options in the summer.
