Manchester City are reportedly closing in on the capture of Real Madrid target Erling Haaland, who is set to receive a €25 million a year contract.
According to Rudy Galetti, Manchester City have made some significant strides in their pursuit of Erling Haaland. The two parties are currently locked in negotiations over a summer move to the Etihad, but it appears the talks have reached its final stage and an agreement is close.
Manchester City have offered Haaland a whopping €25 million-a-year contract plus bonuses. It would make the Real Madrid target one of the highest-paid players in the world, with both sides currently looking over final details before they can make an announcement.
In addition to offering a hefty contract, Manchester City have also had to pay Borussia Dortmund a release clause worth €75 million, which might not appear to be a fortune for a player who has scored goals for fun in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
Indeed, Haaland has had a stupendous goalscoring record at Dortmund since joining the club in early 2020. In 85 competitive appearances, he has racked up 82 goals while bagging 23 assists. He has already broken a host of goalscoring records and could be set for greatness as he looks to join a Manchester City squad looking ever so stronger.
The Sky Blues have been on the hunt for a new striker for quite some time now. Manchester City have been doing a wonderful job even after the exits of Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres, though Pep Guardiola feels he does need more of a physical presence upfront and that is where Haaland comes into the fray.
But the Norwegian’s potential arrival at Manchester City could come at the expense of Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian has no intention of continuing in Manchester after falling behind in the pecking order and is set to move elsewhere in the summer.
Meanwhile, Haaland’s decision to join Manchester City could serve as a massive blow for Real Madrid. The Spanish giants were described as the only club capable of competing with the English champions for the Dortmund starlet this summer. But it appears Real Madrid have fallen behind in the race and will have to be content with signing Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman is more than likely to move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, as he looks to partner up with compatriot Karim Benzema. Their attacking combination, coupled with the infusion of the Brazilian magic in the form of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo could potentially make Real Madrid one of the most exciting attacking teams in Europe next season.
