La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Atletico Madrid forward has emerged as a potential alternative to Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, and Darwin Nunez.
Joao Felix was once touted as the next big thing in Portuguese football when he became a pivotal figure for Benfica while still in his teens. But the 22-year-old’s progress has been slow since joining Atletico Madrid in July 2019, as he has been in and out of the side, with his output also taking a hit.
The Portuguese international has endured an inconsistent 2021/22 campaign, amassing ten goals and six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. But despite blowing hot and cold at Atletico Madrid, Felix has no shortage of suitors pursuing him, with Barcelona considering signing him in the summer transfer window.
The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in Felix, having shown an interest in him before he joined Atletico Madrid. And in the summer transfer window, Barcelona could do with a player of the 22-year-old forward’s qualities, considering Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong face uncertain futures at Camp Nou.
While Braithwaite will seek a new challenge and hope to feature regularly at some other club, de Jong will likely return to Sevilla for good. Felix has thus come into the picture and become a possible target. But the Portuguese international is not the priority option for Barcelona, with Robert Lewandowski one of their key targets.
In addition to Lewandowski, Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez are also linked with Barcelona. But Felix could become a target for the Blaugrana if the three strikers become out of reach for them. And signing Felix could become a surprisingly straightforward procedure if Atletico Madrid cannot qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Jorge Mendes will look to get several of his clients a new club in the summer, and Felix could be one of them if Atletico Madrid cannot clinch a top-four finish. That is a possibility, with fifth-placed Real Betis just a point behind Los Rojiblancos. It will be interesting to see if Felix joins Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
