Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has reportedly emerged as a top transfer target for Serie A giants Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Juventus have made Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso a priority transfer target for the upcoming transfer window.
Alonso has been with Chelsea since 2016 when he arrived in a deadline day move from Fiorentina. The 31-year-old quickly became a key part of the team under then-manager Antonio Conte, helping the Blues win the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
However, he has been in and out of the side since 2018, first jostling for his position with Emerson Palmieri before falling behind Ben Chilwell, who arrived from Leicester City in 2020. Alonso has made 201 appearances for Chelsea, contributing 26 goals and 21 assists. With Chilwell out injured, Alonso has gotten an extended run in the side this season, featuring 35 times across all competitions.
But with his contract set to expire in a little over a year, the left-back’s future has been called into question. Alonso himself has admitted that he would consider moving to La Liga amid links to the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Now, Juventus have also entered the fray for the signing of Alonso. The Bianconeri have had a subpar campaign under Massimiliano Allegri and are looking to revamp their squad, with a new left-back high on the agenda for the Turin giants.
Alex Sandro has regressed quite rapidly over the past year. Luca Pellegrini has not made much of an impression either. It has forced Allegri to use Mattia De Sciglio on the left flank for the time being, with the club looking for an upgrade before the next campaign kicks off.
As per the report, Alonso is at the top of the list of left-backs that Juventus are considering signing. However, the report adds that he is not the only Chelsea player on their radar, as the Serie A bigwigs are also looking at Emerson Palmieri, who is currently out on loan at Olympique Lyon.
Apart from the two Chelsea full-backs, Juventus are also considering Owen Wijndal, Andrea Cambiaso and Raoul Bellanova as prospective targets to improve their options at left-back. It will be interesting to see if they go after Alonso or pursue other targets.
