Anthony Martial on Borussia Dortmund radar

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has reportedly emerged as a potential target for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

A recent report from 90 min has delivered an update on Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of new attackers. It appears the Bundesliga giants are confident of sealing the deal to sign Red Bull Salzburg starlet Karim Adeyemi and have already moved on to other targets, most of who play in the Premier League.

Dortmund have been linked with a move for Timo Werner in the past, but it seems they have also set their sights on Anthony Martial. The Manchester United forward is currently plying his trade at Sevilla after joining the club on loan in January. While he is expected to return to Old Trafford after the end of the season, many expect him to move on in the summer in search of regular game-time elsewhere.

During his loan spell at Sevilla so far, Martial has only made five appearances in La Liga, scoring just one goal. The Manchester United loanee’s performances in the UEFA Europa League have been underwhelming as well, with Los Nervionenses notably losing to West Ham United in the Round of 16.

The Frenchman appears to have fallen behind Lucas Ocampos, Munir El Haddadi, Rafa Mir and Tecacito Corona in the pecking order, leading to a lack of game-time under Julen Lopetegui.

Martial’s struggles, though, have not deterred Borussia Dortmund, who believe the Manchester United forward has what it takes to help the club plug the gap of Erling Haaland next season.

The Norwegian super-talent is expected to leave the Bundesliga in the summer. While the Premier League could be a potential destination, he has also emerged as a target for Real Madrid, who are reportedly prepared to sell up to six players in order to make room for him and Kylian Mbappe next season.

Nevertheless, Dortmund’s plans to replace Haaland with Martial and Adeyemi could be a gutsy one, given neither of them are proper centre forwards. They may not offer the same level of physicality either, so it won’t be surprising to see the Black and Yellows shifting their attention towards other alternatives.

Even Sevilla have shown no interest in signing Martial permanently in the summer, so it could prove to be difficult for Manchester United to find an attractive suitor for the Frenchman, whose career could be headed for a downward spiral in the years to come.
