Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United are ready to go head to head in the race to sign Moussa Diaby in the summer.
According to reliable Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger, the race to sign Moussa Diaby this coming summer is heating up. The Bayer Leverkusen superstar has become a top target for at least three Premier League clubs in Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Leverkusen are bracing for the attacker’s potential departure. Even though there is no release clause embedded in Diaby’s contract, the Bundesliga outfit are expected to demand around €60 million. They have already identified AS Roma’s Carles Perez as a potential replacement for the blazing Frenchman, whose departure appears to be only a matter of time.
A product of the PSG youth academy that has produced multiple star players in recent years, including Christopher Nkunku, Diaby joined Leverkusen in 2019. He made an immediate impact in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals while assisting just as many in his debut campaign.
Diaby’s numbers have only improved since, with the attacker notably assisting 12 league goals last term. And this time around, the explosive forward has been involved in 19 goals in 24 matches, helping Bayer Leverkusen remain in the race to finish inside the top four in the Bundesliga.
The 22-year-old’s prolific displays in the final third have alerted the big guns of Europe, with even Bayern Munich and Real Madrid reportedly battling for his signature. However, the two European giants might not be able to afford the player’s hefty €60 million price-tag, given they have other priorities in the summer.
That is where the Premier League trifecta of Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal come into the fray. The Red Devils, in particular, are likely to raid the Bundesliga in the summer, thanks to Ralf Rangnick’s vast knowledge of the league. And amid fears over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford, someone like Diaby could be an excellent option.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are in the market for attacking reinforcements, especially out wide as they look to offload Nicolas Pepe. Mikel Arteta is also expected to shift Gabriel Martinelli in a more central role next season, even though the Gunners have been linked with strikers such as struggling Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
As for Newcastle, they have the biggest financial muscle among the three and are most likely to meet Diaby’s valuation. The Magpies are already believed to be preparing a big-money move to sign the French forward. But it remains to be seen whether the player opts to reject other clubs in favour of a move to St. James’ Park.
