Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a shocking summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane.
A recent report from Daily Mirror has revealed Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane. The Premier League giants are considering a summer move for the highly-rated English forward, who could leave Tottenham Hotspur after the end of the season.
Kane was linked with an exit last summer when Manchester City tried to bag his services, not once but four times, as revealed by Pep Guardiola last month. But the prolific striker ended up remaining in north London in hopes of helping the club land success under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, things have not quite transpired the way he was hoping as Spurs had to sack Nuno earlier in the campaign following a disastrous start to the season. Not to mention, Kane himself struggled to establish himself under the Portuguese, and his goalscoring record has improved only after the arrival of Antonio Conte.
While the Italian has brought in noticeable improvements at Spurs, the club still lack the desired consistency to be able to fight for the top four places. And following elimination from all cup competitions, the Lilywhites are set for yet another trophyless season. It could prompt Kane to pack his bags in the summer, especially with Manchester City preparing a fresh offer for the English international.
It appears as though the Citizens are set to face stiff competition from their cross-town rivals Manchester United in the pursuit of Kane. The Red Devils have endured a difficult season so far, failing to live up to expectations despite a promising summer transfer window that involved the arrival of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.
The club’s inability to fight for the Premier League may even lead to Ronaldo’s exit come the end of the season. And in many ways, it could be a blessing in disguise for Manchester United as they look to rebuild and sign a forward that can offer them teamwork and gel around other talented attackers such as Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.
Kane fits the bill perfectly, given his exemplary goalscoring record, coupled with his vast experience at the highest level of football. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Manchester United will be able to financially compete with Manchester City in the prolific English forward’s pursuit this summer.
