Crystal Palace are reportedly keeping tabs on Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson, who could leave the club in the summer transfer window.
According to Jeunes Footeux, Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation of Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson, who could be on his way out in the summer after failing to establish himself at Villa Park.
Having spent a large chunk of his career at Montepellier and Marseille in France, Sanson made his way to England in January last year when he arrived at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old played just eight times last season before an injury ended his campaign, while things have hardly improved for him in the ongoing campaign.
Sanson has taken to the pitch just nine times in 2021/22, with his game-time taking a big hit after Steven Gerrard took over the reins of the club. The Liverpool legend wants to sign one or two new central midfielders like Georginio Wijnaldum and Rangers’ star Joe Aribo, among others.
This could prompt Aston Villa to offload some of their current midfielders, with Sanson likely to be one of them. Crystal Palace have been alerted by this development and are believed to be tracking the situation closely.
Crystal Palace are building something positive under new manager Patrick Vieira. The Eagles have made progress this season in terms of their recruitment strategies and style of play, although that has not translated into consistent performances on the pitch. But Vieira will continue to tweak things as he looks to build a solid team capable of pushing for a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Midfield is an area that will need attention in the summer at Selhurst Park as Conor Gallagher’s loan spell will come to an end, after which he will be back at Chelsea. With James McArthur’s contract expiring at the end of the season, there will be a need for a new central midfielder for Crystal Palace.
The Eagles have been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, while the south London outfit also have their sights set on Lewis O’Brien of Huddersfield Town. Sanson has emerged as a transfer target for Crystal Palace due to his current uncertain situation at Aston Villa.
While the 27-year-old might have found it tough to get going at Villa Park, he is a player with plenty of quality and is someone that Vieira will be aware of from his time as a manager in Ligue 1. Apart from Crystal Palace, Lille and Rennes are also keeping tabs on the situation of Sanson.
