Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United have contacted AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.
According to Spanish publication Sport, English giants Chelsea and Manchester United have already reached out to AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni heading into the summer transfer window.
The French international is making a name for himself in Ligue 1 and proved himself on the international stage with a sensational set of performances for Les Bleus in the UEFA Nations League tournament. He has made 36 appearances for Monaco this season, scoring three goals and making two assists.
Still just 22, Tchouameni is already amongst the best young defensive midfielders in world football and appears set to take his game to the next level.
Chelsea and Man United are two sides who could do with the Frenchman’s dynamism in the middle of the pitch. Chelsea fought well in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at the weekend, but N’Golo Kante was far from his best, while Jorginho had to settle for a spot on the bench. Mateo Kovacic is a dependable player for the Blues, but it is time for the club to look towards the future.
Thomas Tuchel should be focussing on strengthening his midfield in the summer, and few players can offer him what Tchouameni brings to the table. The 22-year-old has every trait in the locker to replace Kante in the long run and develop into the club’s lynchpin in the middle of the park.
The same can be said of Man United, who are still a few key additions away from challenging at the top. Scott McTominay and Fred put in the hard yards, but lack the dynamism and ability to make a difference in the middle of the park. Nemanja Matic is the club’s lone senior specialist defensive midfielder, and at 33, his powers are on the wane.
Paul Pogba looks set to leave in the summer, while Donny van de Beek has struggled to settle at the Theatre of Dreams. A midfielder is on the agenda at Old Trafford in the off season, and there are few better long term options available in Europe than Tchouameni.
Both Chelsea and Man United will face competition from the Spanish duo Real Madrid and Barcelona for the French international. Los Blancos signed Eduardo Camavinga last season, and the youngster has struggled to kick on from the promise he showed while at Stade Rennais.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are in a state of rebuilding, and it might be a while before they can return to competing for a spot at the summit of European football. These factors could aid the English clubs in their pursuit of Tchouameni.
