Barcelona target Robert Lewandowski is in talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract, as per the Bavarian club’s president Herbert Hainer.
In an interview with German publication Bild, as quoted by Bundesliga News, Herbert Hainer has commented on Robert Lewandowski’s future at Bayern Munich amid the Polish striker’s links with Barcelona. The Bavarian club’s president has revealed that the two parties are in talks over a new contract, with discussions reaching an advanced stage.
Robert Lewandowski is one of the best players in Europe, performing at a consistently high level for over a decade. While the 33-year-old was already a prolific striker during his stint with Borussia Dortmund, he has transformed into a goal machine and an all rounder in the final third in the last half a dozen years.
The Polish international has enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign, amassing 47 goals and four assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. But Lewandowski’s contract situation has put Bayern Munich in a spot of bother, as his deal runs in a little over a year. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.
Barcelona will aim to sign a top-class striker in the summer transfer window, with their last few games showing why they need a prolific forward in the final third. And there is no centre-forward who has been as productive as Lewandowski in recent years, meaning he will be an upgrade on Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong, combined.

But despite Barcelona’s efforts, signing Lewandowski in the summer transfer window could be a tall order. And Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has revealed that the Bundesliga champions are discussing the terms of a new contract with the veteran striker, with talks reaching an advanced stage.
“With Müller and with Neuer it looks very good. There are advanced talks, and I think we can announce something soon. There has been a conversation with Lewandowski. As far as I know, a second meeting has already been scheduled. The talks will continue there as well.”

Hainer’s comments come in the wake of Oliver Kahn’s confident assessment of Lewandowski’s future, with the Bayern Munich CEO insisting that the Pole will remain at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window. So it looks like Barcelona might have to set sights on an alternative, with Lewandowski looking increasingly likely to stay put at Bayern Munich.
