David Aranda, the agent of Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz, has denied rumours of receiving an offer from Celta Vigo this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Defensa Central, David Aranda, the agent of Real Madrid centre-forward Mariano Diaz, has claimed that there have been no offers presented by Celta Vigo contrary to speculations.
Mariano’s second stint at Real Madrid has hardly gone according to plan. Signed from Olympique Lyon in 2018, the striker has found himself on the periphery of the first team at the Santiago Bernabeu and has been informed that he does not feature in manager Carlo Ancelotti’s plans moving forward.
Mariano has been made available for a transfer this summer, but the 29-year-old is proving to be difficult to offload as he is unwilling to lower his salary demands. It led to the collapse of a possible move to Turkey. However, several La Liga clubs continue to hold an interest in the forward, with Celta Vigo among them.
Recent reports even indicated that the Galician outfit had contacted Mariano’s camp and tabled a contract proposal. But his agent has quickly moved to deny those rumours, stating that nobody has contacted him about the striker. “No one has contacted me. There are no news,” he told Defensa Central.
Mariano’s situation is proving to be a headache for Real Madrid. The 29-year-old has little chance of playing given that Karim Benzema is the undisputed No. 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu. But selling the former would leave Los Blancos without any backup for the Frenchman in the centre-forward position.
The Merengues have sold Borja Mayoral to Getafe and plan on offloading Mariano as well so that they can bring in a new No. 9 before the transfer window closes. However, his salary is proving to be a major hurdle in any deal going through so far.
Mariano’s contract with Real Madrid expires in less than a year, on June 30, 2023. So, this window represents the last opportunity for Los Blancos to get a decent fee for the striker as he can leave the club for a free transfer when his deal runs out next summer.
