Olympique Lyon’s teenage midfielder Rayan Cherki has admitted that he desires to play for Real Madrid amid interest from the Merengues.
Speaking to French publication Onze Mondial, as relayed by Fichajes.net, Olympique Lyon’s teenage midfield prodigy Rayan Cherki has admitted that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid, who have shown an interest in the youngster.
A product of the Lyon youth academy, the 18-year-old Cherki made his first-team debut for Les Gones in 2019 and has gone on to make 44 appearances, scoring seven goals and setting up six more.
Cherki’s rapid progress in Ligue 1 has attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid also among them. The Merengues were pointed towards the teenage starlet by former manager Zinedine Zidane and even though he is not at the club anymore, the club are said to be monitoring the midfielder.
And, Cherki, when quizzed about this interest from Real Madrid, has admitted that Real Madrid is the club of his dreams. Speaking to Onze Mondial, he said: “We all know that the club one of my dreams is Real Madrid. It would be great to join the biggest club in the world.” However, the 18-year-old insisted that for now he wishes to stay at Lyon and continue his development.
Real Madrid strengthened their midfield unit this summer, securing the signing of Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennais on the transfer deadline day. However, with Luka Modric in the twilight of his illustrious career and Toni Kroos not getting any younger either, there will be a need of bringing in a new central midfielder in the near future.
A move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is being lined up as well when he becomes a free agent at the end of the ongoing season. And, Cherki, too, can be an addition worth considering for the Spanish capital giants with an eye on the future. An attacking midfielder who can play in the final third as well, the teenager can be a valuable asset for the Merengues.
At 18, the youngster has demonstrated great potential already and is seemingly set for big things. With even himself admitting that he wishes to join Real Madrid in the future, a move may well happen in the future, if not imminently.
