Wayne Rooney broke the club goalscoring record for Manchester United against Stoke City, and the fans are putting him up as an example for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to follow.
A sublime free-kick from Wazza in stoppage time helped the Red Devils salvage a point in a tough fixture against the Potters at the Bet 365 Stadium. However his actions after have been applauded on social media.
Rooney’s goal was his 250th for United, breaking the long standing record of most goals scored for the club that was held by Sir Bobby Charlton for so many years. However the Englishman didn’t celebrate and instead charged back to the half-way line looking to restart the game and get a winning goal for United.
This stands in sharp contrast to the actions of Olivier Giroud, who came under a lot of criticism for madly celebrating a late equalizer against Bournemouth a few weeks ago.
Manchester United fans were quick to point out the difference in the mentalities between the two players after the game, shaming the Gunners’ Flamboyant French striker.
Rooney doesnt celebrate becoming the highest Manutd scorer of all time because it was only an equaliser. Elite mentality. Take note, Giroud

Rooney scores last min to be all time Utd top scorer demands them to get back. Giroud scores to equalise & runs to celebrate#TheDifference pic.twitter.com/q0GxUcAyFP

Just shows the mentality Rooney has got. Raced back to the half way line after scoring. If that was Giroud he’d still be dancing now

Imagine Giroud scored a goal with as much personal achievement as the one Rooney just scored. He would still be celebrating next Wednesday.

Whatever your thoughts on Rooney
He equalises 94th min, wants the ball back quick.
Giroud equalises 94th min, does a shitty look-at-me dance— DUCK MAGAZINE (@DUCKmagstoke) January 21, 2017
Rooney becomes the club’s record goal scorer and shouts at team mates to get the ball, Giroud was busy dancing like a knob #TheDifference

If giroud broke a record like rooney I think now he is still celebrating at the stadium

Rooney breaks the record runs back to halfway line and says disappointed with result
Giroud scores, prances about, plays soggy biscuit after— Mkhaddies (@Caddies) January 21, 2017
Rooney is bald, he lacks the charisma to pull off a celebration for a late equaliser like Giroud did.
