Two months after announcing his retirement from football, Steven Gerrard has joined Liverpool’s academy at Kirkby as a coach as he looks to build a career in management.
Friday was a pleasant day for Liverpool Football Club as not only was Joel Matip cleared to play for the Reds, hence putting an end to his stand-off with the Cameroon FA, but also a very special name joined the ranks at the club’s Academy in Kirkby, Steven Gerrard.
The legend, who only two months earlier brought the curtains down on an incredible footballing career, will be officially joining as a coach at the facility in a bid to lay the foundation for a future career in management.
Ever since he announced his departure from the LA Galaxy, there were rumours of a potential move to Liverpool for his swansong as a footballing professional but upon announcing his retirement, it became clear he wanted to be associated with the club at a coaching capacity and no more as a player.
The news understandably brought about a lot of joy among the Liverpool faithful as they tipped the midfielder for big things in his future as a manager.
His presence at Kirkby will be a huge boost and motivation for youngstes moving up the ranks at the club and the move is very much in line with the club and Klopp’s vision of getting more of the youngsters involved in the senior fold.
