Liverpool 4-2 Burnley: Firmino, Mane at the double as Reds keep up with leaders Manchester City [Tweets]

Liverpool kept pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City as they came back from a goal down to beat Burnley 4-2 at Anfield on Sunday.

Things began in the worst possible fashion for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool as Burnley drew first blood just six minutes into the game, with Ashley Westwood scoring directly from a corner kick.

Liverpool didn’t get bogged down by the early setback and kept coming at the Clarets, and the equalizer came in the 19th minute through Roberto Firmino, after some fine work by Gini Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah. Ten minutes later, the Reds were a goal up, as Sadio Mane fired home from inside the box, capitalizing on some sloppy defending by Burnley.

Firmino went on to get his second of the day a little after the hour mark to make it 3-1 and put Liverpool comfortably ahead. The Reds were given a brief scare when substitute Johann Berg Gudmundsson pulled one back for Burnley in stoppage time, but all nerves were eased as Mane made it 4-2 moments later to seal the game.

It was an action packed encounter which ended in a crucial win for Liverpool. The result meant Jurgen Klopp’s side reduced the gap at the top of the table to just one point, after having seen Manchester City beat Watford on Saturday. And here’s how the Liverpool supporters reacted to the victory on social media;

Roberto Firmino stole the show on his return to the starting XI, having not been fit enough to start in the derby draw against Everton last weekend.

Sadio Mane continued his exceptional run of form as he scored in his sixth successive Premier League game at Anfield. In the process, he also reached the 50-goal mark for Liverpool.
