Jamie Carragher has once again pleaded to Liverpool for extending the contract of star man Mohamed Salah.
Speaking to Sky Sports, as cited by Tribal Football Jamie Carragher has once again urged Liverpool to extend the contract of Mohamed Salah. The Reds’ legend has hailed the Egyptian for his services at the club while claiming he is the most in-form player in the world at the moment.
Carragher’s praise for Salah came shortly after the winger’s incredible performance against Manchester City. The attacker was involved in both the goals, as Liverpool churned out a 2-2 draw against the reigning English champions.
After the draw, Carragher hailed Salah for his marvellous record this season. “I don’t think there’s anyone playing better in the world or in Europe at the moment. His record at the start of this season has been absolutely outstanding,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
Salah has indeed kick-started the new season on a positive note. In just nine competitive matches, the winger has scored nine goals while providing three assists. His exploits in front of goal have helped Liverpool emerge as one of the favourites to clinch the Premier League title this season.
As such, Carragher went on to urge Liverpool to extend Salah’s contract that expires in 2023. The 43-year-old did acknowledge the club’s financial problems but insisted that the former Chelsea winger has never been better and play on well in his 30s.
“You can never really question him for what he’s done at Liverpool – if at all – but right now is as probably as sharp and as good as I’ve ever seen him.”
“I know the situation Liverpool are in,” Carragher said. “They don’t have the finances Man City have when you see someone like Kevin De Bruyne. But right now he’s playing as well as anyone in European football they can’t let this drag on and risk losing Mo Salah in the next two years because this is a guy who looks after himself.”
“I’m not going to say he’s like Ronaldo at 35 or 36 topping the goalscoring charts but I still think this lad has a lot in him going into his 30s,” the Liverpool legend added.
This is not the first time Carragher has asked Liverpool to renew terms with Salah, having urged the club to do the same a few weeks ago. His comments also reflect a transfer saga that is slowly ensuing.
Barcelona have already expressed their interest in the Egyptian international so it appears Liverpool may need to act swiftly if they are to keep hold of their talisman.
