Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni in the summer transfer window.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on strengthening their defensive options in the summer window and have identified Alessandro Bastoni as a potential target.
A product of the Atalanta youth academy, Bastoni signed for Inter Milan in 2017 and spent the subsequent season on loan at La Dea. The defender then had a temporary stint with Parma before breaking into the Nerazzurri first-team setup in 2019. He has since grown into an integral part of the team at the San Siro and was a key contributor to their Serie A title triumph last season.
To date, Bastoni has made 101 appearances for Inter Milan, scoring three goals and registering eight assists in the process. The Italian international has been in impressive form in the current campaign again and seems to be attracting admirers across Europe, with Tottenham emerging as a suitor.
The Lilywhites strengthened their defensive unit last summer with the acquisition of Cristian Romero. However, the Argentine has spent most of the season so far out with an injury. Since Antonio Conte’s arrival, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have grown more reliable and consistent following the switch to a three-man defensive system.
But Tottenham are light on options as Ben Davies is not a natural in the position while question marks hang over the futures of both Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga. Adding another quality defender to the roster makes a great deal of sense for the north London outfit, with Sven Botman of LOSC Lille emerging as a target.
Apart from the Dutchman, Spurs have also identified Bastoni as a potential option for the summer window. The 22-year-old is a player that Conte knows very well, having coached him for two years at Inter Milan. The defender also has an intimate knowledge of the Italian tactician’s system and philosophies, which would make him an ideal fit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Bastoni is contracted with Inter Milan until the summer of 2024. It will likely take a mega-money offer from Tottenham Hotspur to secure the Italian’s signing in the upcoming transfer window.
