Arsenal’s interest in Alexander Isak has not waned, with the Gunners reportedly plotting a summer move for the Real Sociedad striker.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Mikel Arteta will be backed by the Arsenal board in the summer transfer window. One of the Gunners’ key targets is Swedish striker Alexander Isak, valued at around £75 million by La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.
Alexander Isak has long been regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. The 22-year-old has often drawn comparisons with compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic but has yet to get going in senior-level club football. A move to Borussia Dortmund did not work out one bit, but the switch to Real Sociedad has been mildly successful.
That being said, the Swedish international has endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign, managing a sub-par tally of eight goals and two assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. The player’s profligacy has not done anything to detract his prospective suitors, with Arsenal among the clubs keen on signing him from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.
Arsenal had been hot on the trail of the young striker but were rebuffed by Real Sociedad as they did not trigger his release clause. Despite failing to secure a deadline day move for Isak, the Gunners remain eager to secure his services, turning their attention towards the summer transfer window.
Isak is one of two strikers on Arsenal’s agenda for the summer, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin also featuring high on their priority list. Signing a striker is imperative for the north Londoners, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has departed the Emirates to join Barcelona, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are in the final six months of their respective contracts and likely to depart as free agents.
Arsenal will thus need to enter the transfer market for at least one natural striker, making Isak a viable target. But the north Londoners will need to spend £75 million to prise the 22-year-old away from Real Sociedad, with the La Liga outfit adamant that his release clause be paid in full.
Apart from Isak and Calvert-Lewin, another player high on Arsenal’s agenda is Ruben Neves, who could also be pursued by the Gunners in the summer. Mikel Arteta is eager to continue his squad’s evolution, and the Arsenal board will back him after seeing the success of last summer’s signings. It will be interesting to see if the three players arrive at the Emirates, starting with Isak in a £75 million move.
