West Ham United are reportedly in talks with Chelsea over a potential move for on-loan Southampton forward Armando Broja.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United are lining up a late January move for Armando Broja. The Chelsea striker is currently on loan at Southampton until the end of the season. But his spell at St. Mary’s Stadium could be cut short as numerous clubs including West Ham look to secure his services this month.
The Saints are keen on sealing Broja’s long-term future. But they are set to face stiff competition from West Ham, who are set to undergo talks with Chelsea surrounding a late move for the striker. They are believed to be keen on a permanent swoop, although the Londoners are open to a loan deal as well.
A product of the Chelsea academy, Broja has been a major success at Southampton this season. In 18 matches, he has scored five goals while showcasing immense grit, commitment and fighting spirit. Moreover, his tall 1.91m frame has made him an ideal fit for the physically astute nature of the Premier League.
The young Albanian’s success has not gone unnoticed, with West Ham targeting him as a potential alternative to Michail Antonio during the second half of the campaign. The Hammers have been linked with a move for several strikers in January, including emerging Ligue 1 talent Hugo Ekitike.
However, they have not had much luck in their pursuit of a new forward and are thus eyeing a move for Broja. The youngster has enjoyed a lot of success at Southampton and will be keen on the opportunity to play in Europe during the second half of the campaign.
Chelsea, for their part, are yet to make a definitive decision on the future of the Albanian international. They are aware of the player’s quality and potential but are opting to wait until the end of the season before taking a call.
The Blues are already expected to undergo a busy summer transfer window, with Timo Werner and even Romelu Lukaku subjected to a move away from Stamford Bridge. With that in mind, it won’t be surprising to see Thomas Tuchel opting to retain some of the younger options like Broja, who is likely to remain at Southampton during the second half of the campaign.
