Bayer Leverkusen could swoop in for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and sign him on a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer Bosman move.
According to The Sun, there is interest from Germany in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, who is available on a free transfer in the summer. Bayer Leverkusen are the latest team to plot a move, as the Bundesliga side hope to finalise a pre-contract agreement with the Gunners’ star in January.
Nketiah seems to be inching towards the exit door at Arsenal despite his top-notch performances in cup competitions this term. He does remain behind the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Martinelli in the pecking order when it comes to the Premier League, which is causing him to consider moving away from the club.
Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s recent omission, Nketiah is finding it hard to get any minutes in the first team. With his contract running out at the club, the striker is prepared to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. Since the campaign began, Arsenal have made more than two contract offers, but Nketiah continues to reject their proposals.
His reasons are not financially motivated, as the striker seeks to play regularly, which is proving difficult under Mikel Arteta in this team. There is an opportunity to seek a new challenge, as a move may transpire in January or, most likely, in the summer on a free transfer. There is plenty of interest from Premier League sides in the current window, although Nketiah cannot sign a pre-contract agreement.
But he could do so with foreign clubs, with there being strong interest from Germany. Nketiah could find it interesting to switch to a Bundesliga club as many other young English players have done before. The German clubs also have a good track record of developing talents, as seen with Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Demarai Gray among others.
Bayer Leverkusen are the latest to show an interest in Nketiah. The Bundesliga side are always looking for young talents, and Nketiah could fit in perfectly with their plans. Die Werkself are keen on signing him on a free transfer, as they aim to get into a pre-contract agreement with the striker early in January.
It may be a tricky situation for Arsenal and Nketiah, depending on the interest from clubs from England or abroad. The Gunners may have a striker shortage if the player leaves, although they could be tempted by a decent transfer fee from Premier League clubs. On the other hand, losing him on a free to Leverkusen or another club abroad could be a blow financially.
