Real Madrid could launch the offensive for Florian Wirtz next summer, with Carlo Ancelotti asking the club officials to intensify contacts with the 18-year-old.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Florian Wirtz is likely to become a key target for Real Madrid heading into next summer’s transfer window. Carlo Ancelotti is keen on bringing the 18-year-old Bayer Leverkusen prodigy into his squad and has asked club officials to step up talks with him.
Florian Wirtz joined the Bayer Leverkusen academy from 1.FC Koln in January 2020 and took no time to graduate to the first-team squad. And since making his senior bow at BayArena last year, the teenage prodigy has quickly established himself as a key player for Die Werkself while also breaking into the German national side.
The 18-year-old is enjoying a solid 2021/22 campaign, amassing eight goals and 11 assists in 21 appearances across all competitions thus far. And after proving to be Kai Havertz’s true successor at Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz has become a highly sought-after commodity in the transfer market, with Real Madrid among the clubs keen on signing the German prodigy.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering 2021/22 will be Gareth Bale’s final season at the club. In addition, there is a shroud of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. And if either of the players leaves, Real Madrid will need to bring in a replacement.
To that end, Wirtz is a viable target for Real Madrid, with his ability to play as a creative midfielder also possibly making him a backup option for the club. And the Spanish giants are set to step up their efforts to secure the services of the 18-year-old attacking sensation, who is also being chased by a raft of Premier League clubs, in next summer’s transfer window.
Carlo Ancelotti is keen on bringing Wirtz into his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season and is hoping to repeat the Eduardo Camavinga operation. As a result, the Real Madrid boss has asked the club officials to intensify contacts with the German prodigy. To that end, the Merengues have stepped up their efforts to land Wirtz.
However, unlike Camavinga, the youngster will not have entered the final year of his deal, with his Bayer Leverkusen contract running until June 30, 2026. So, a big-money sum will likely be demanded by the Bundesliga outfit, and it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can afford such a figure in a transfer window wherein they also intend to sign Erling Haaland.
