Liverpool are ready to enter the race for Ajax’s in-demand midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who is also on the radars of Serie A giants Juventus.
According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are keen on signing Ajax midfield prodigy Ryan Gravenberch but face some tough competition from Juventus and other Premier League sides for the signature of the teenage sensation.
Ryan Gravenberch has developed properly under Erik ten Hag and has made 80 appearances for Ajax, 19 of which have come in the current season. His performances with the Dutch giants have attracted many suitors, with some of the biggest sides in world football queuing up for his signature.
Juventus are among those keen on signing the midfielder as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is expected to leave Turin in January. The Manchester clubs have also been linked, while there is mild interest from sides like Arsenal, Chelsea and even Tottenham. These sides are attracted by what Gravenberch offers, and his displays at Ajax have certainly proven a point.
Liverpool are also very interested in the Netherlands international. Jurgen Klopp was looking at options to bolster his midfield unit in the summer, although he ended the window with just one senior signing by bringing in defender Ibrahima Konate. The Merseysiders might be tempted to make a move for a midfielder in January or at the end of the season, with Gravenberch certainly on their shortlist.
Despite losing Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer, Liverpool have not let it affect their performances and have maintained the pressure at the top of the Premier League table. But, there have been injuries to key stars such as Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and James Milner between the start of the season and now, which could prompt them into action in January.
Klopp might look at Gravenberch as someone who could become a long term stalwart alongside other youngsters such as Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott. A move to Anfield might certainly attract the 19-year-old midfielder given that he would be playing under one of the best managers in the game.
Gravenberch has a contract expiring in 2023, which could prompt Ajax to cash in on the midfielder in January or the summer if he does not sign a new deal. However, clubs will have to pay a significant price for his signature. And, as things stand, the many clubs interested in Gravenberch, including Liverpool and Juventus, might make an offer.
A move to Liverpool could certainly be an enticing one for the midfielder. Whether the Reds decide to firm up their interest in the teenager and make a formal approach remains to be seen.
