Chelsea have reportedly tabled a €40 million offer to sign Eder Militao, who is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
According to a new report from El Nacional, Chelsea are closely monitoring Eder Militao’s situation at Real Madrid. The highly-rated centre-back has emerged as a defensive lynchpin under Carlo Ancelotti, but with a salary of just €4.5 million per season, he remains one of the lowest earners in the team.
It has put Chelsea on red alert, with the Premier League giants hoping to lure the Brazilian international by offering him a lucrative deal. They have already tabled a €40 million bid to Real Madrid for the defender, but it appears Florentino Perez is not too keen on cashing in on his star asset.
In fact, Los Blancos intend to extend Militao’s contract in an attempt to fend off potential suitors like Chelsea. Although the defender’s current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu does not expire until 2025, Perez wants to improve his salary while embedding a new release clause that could price him out of a move away from the Spanish capital.
It is welcome news for Militao, who has stepped up his game considerably since the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti. The former FC Porto starlet has built a solid defensive foundation alongside David Alaba that has been critical in helping the club move on from Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.
Militao’s performances, though, have not deterred Real Madrid from entering the market for further defensive reinforcements. Incidentally, they are one of the clubs in contention to sign Chelsea’s defensive stalwart Antonio Rudiger, who is reportedly unhappy over his salary at Stamford Bridge and could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
It has put Los Blancos on red alert, while Chelsea themselves have started scouring the market for an ideal replacement. Militao, in fact, may have been identified as one of the potential options to replace the German next season at Chelsea. But with the Brazilian likely to remain at the Bernabeu, the Blues have to look elsewhere.
Fortunately for Thomas Tuchel, he has no shortage of alternatives. In addition to Militao, Chelsea are reportedly in the market for Hungarian defender Attila Szalai, who had made a big impression in UEFA Euro 2020 this past summer and is currently one of the best young defenders in the Turkish Superlig, while Jules Kounde could be another top target.
