Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a report from El Nacional, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, and French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain have taken an interest in Real Madrid’s Brazilian defender Eder Militao.
The 23-year-old defender has been with Real Madrid since 2019, having joined in a €50 million move from Portuguese giants FC Porto. Militao endured a debut season to forget at the Santiago Bernabeu but grew in stature last season, filling in for Sergio Ramos when he was sidelined for a considerable period with injuries.
Following his and Raphael Varane’s departure in the summer, the Brazilian has established himself as a mainstay at the back for Los Blancos, forging a solid partnership with summer arrival David Alaba. Militao has started each of Real Madrid’s 16 games across all competitions this season, indicating his current status in the squad.
However, as per the report, the former Sao Paulo academy man is considering his long-term future at the Spanish capital club. This is because of Real Madrid’s interest in Jules Kounde. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen on adding the Frenchman to his roster in the summer, and Militao believes that the Sevilla star’s arrival would eat into his game-time.
As a result, the 23-year-old is keeping his options open, which has now piqued the interest of two of the biggest clubs in Europe in the form of Bayern Munich and PSG. The former strengthened their defence with the signing of Dayot Upamecano in the summer. Still, manager Julian Nagelsmann is believed to be not entirely convinced of his options at the back, particularly Lucas Hernandez.
In addition, Niklas Sule is in the final year of his contract and has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League. So, the Bavarian giants are keen on adding another centre-back to their ranks and see Militao as a right fit owing to his ball-playing abilities and physicality.
But, Die Roten are set to face competition from PSG, who are also very keen on signing Militao. Having lost Thiago Silva last year, the Parisian giants were unable to replace him adequately. Ramos, who left Real Madrid for PSG earlier this year, has struggled with injuries and is yet to make his debut while Presnel Kimpembe has blown hot and cold.
Hence, Les Parisiens are aiming to sign Militao to partner him up with compatriot Marquinhos at the heart of their defence. The 23-year-old’s contract with Real Madrid runs until 2025, and given that he is a valued member of the team, Los Blancos are unlikely to be willing to part ways with the centre-half. It remains to be seen if either PSG or Bayern Munich can pry him away from Spain.
