Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Noussair Mazraoui and are considering a Bosman move for the 23-year-old Moroccan defender.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Noussair Mazraoui is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a free transfer in next summer’s transfer window. The Spanish giants are looking at the 23-year-old Ajax defender as a long-term solution for the troublesome right-back slot.
Noussair Mazraoui has been with Ajax for nearly a decade and a half now, having joined the Dutch giants’ famed youth setup in 2006 from Alphense Boys. Since then, the Moroccan defender has come leaps and bounds and is now the first-choice right-back at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The 23-year-old has started the 2021/22 season strongly as well, chipping in with four goals and three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. However, Ajax are in a precarious position over his long-term future, seeing as Mazraoui has entered the final year of his contract with the club. Such a situation has now piqued the interest of Real Madrid.
The right-back slot has become a problem area for Real Madrid owing to the fitness struggles of Dani Carvajal this year. While Lucas Vazquez filled in admirably for the Spaniard last season, he has not been in the best of forms early in the new campaign, which has now created the need for a new right-back.
With Alvaro Odriozola likely to be sold next summer amid interest from Real Sociedad, it becomes all the more imperative for Real Madrid to be on the lookout for right-back solutions. To that end, Mazraoui is a viable target for the Merengues, who will find his status of potentially becoming a free agent all the more appealing.
While Real Madrid appear to be faring much better on the financial front than just about every other club in Spain, they, like any other establishment, have been hit by the after-effects of the coronavirus pandemic. So, at a time when they are set to splash the big bucks on some of their priority targets, Los Blancos could certainly do with some cost-effective signings.
Meanwhile, apart from Mazraoui, Real Madrid have also shown an interest in Nordi Mukiele, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries, among others. What now remains to be seen is if the 23-year-old Moroccan defender ends up running down his Ajax deal before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
