Marcelo Brozovic is reportedly keen on making a jump to Real Madrid from Inter Milan as his contract with the Nerazzurri closes in on expiry.
According to a report from Spanish publication Defensa Central, Real Madrid may have been handed a boost in pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as the Croatian is keen on joining the club next year.
Brozovic has been with Inter Milan since the summer of 2016 when he signed from Dinamo Zagreb. Since then, the 28-year-old has grown into a key member of the starting XI at the Guiseppe Meazza and become one of the most reliable midfielders in the Italian top-flight. He played a crucial role in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title triumph last season.
However, Brozovic has entered the final year of his contract with the Italian champions, leading to speculations about his future. There has been plenty of interest from England with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham keen while Barcelona have also set their sights on the Croatian international.
Real Madrid, too, have identified Brozovic as a potential transfer target for the summer of 2022 when his contract will have run out, making him a free agent. The Merengues bolstered their midfield unit with the addition of Eduardo Camavinga in the summer but will need more reinforcements next season.
That is because Brozovic’s international teammate, Luka Modric, is in the final year of his contract and in the twilight of his career as well. Toni Kroos, too, has entered his thirties and has had injury troubles this season while Casemiro is not getting any younger either. In addition, both Isco and Dani Ceballos do not seem to be a part of the plans under manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Adding an experienced campaigner like the Inter Milan midfielder would help Real Madrid build a strong platform for the upcoming few years. They have been given a boost in their pursuit of the 28-year-old as he, too, is supposedly keen on securing a Bosman move to the Spanish capital club when his contract with Inter Milan runs out at the end of the season.
Inter Milan are trying to negotiate with Brozovic to tie him down with a new contract. But if the aforementioned report is indeed true, the Croatian might have his mind made up over a move to Real Madrid. It now remains to be seen if he does end up making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in eight months’ time.
