Barcelona superstar Sergio Aguero has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan ahead of the January window.
According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Sergio Aguero’s ordeal at Barcelona may come to an end in the near future as he has popped up on the radars of Inter Milan ahead of the winter transfer window.
Aguero, 33, returned to La Liga earlier in the summer, ten years after he had made the jump from Atletico Madrid to Manchester City. Having attained the status of a club and Premier League legend, the veteran centre-forward ran his contract down with the Cityzens and rocked up at Camp Nou on a free transfer.
The move was driven by Aguero’s deep desire to play club football with best friend and Argentina teammate Lionel Messi. However, the 33-year-old would not be getting his wishes as Messi ended up leaving Barcelona weeks after Aguero’s arrival, signing for Paris Saint-Germain in a Bosman deal after the Catalans were unable to tie him down to a new contract.
Aguero’s time at Barcelona has been made even more frustrating because of injuries. Indeed, the former Atletico Madrid and Manchester City superstar is yet to take the field for the Blaugrana even once this season and has only recently returned to on-field training.
Considering how things have gone for him in Catalonia, it would be a possibility that he may decide to leave the club in the near future even though he has a contract till 2023. And, as per the report, Inter Milan are ready to offer the 33-year-old a way out potentially as early as the January transfer window.
Inter Milan lost their main man Romelu Lukaku in the summer to Chelsea. The Serie A title-holders did sign Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa, who have done well in the short time at the Guiseppe Meazza. However, Lautaro Martinez’s future continues to be shrouded in uncertainty despite him being close to signing an extension.
In addition, Inter Milan are also ready to part ways with Alexis Sanchez after having run out of patience with the Chilean, which would open up a slot in the squad while also freeing up plenty of space on the wage bill to accommodate Aguero. The Nerazzurri had been linked with the Argentine during the summer as well, and could now look to capitalise on his and Barcelona’s situation with an approach for the striker.
Barcelona themselves are looking for a new striker in the January transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to play ball should Inter make a formal proposal for Aguero. For now, the 33-year-old is firmly on the radars of the Italian champions.
