Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule is a potential option for Chelsea, with his contract in Bavaria expiring at the end of the season.
According to 90 min, Chelsea are in the market for a new centre-back. After failing with a late summer swoop for Jules Kounde, the Premier League giants have now set their sights on quite a few alternatives and one of the options could be Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule.
The German international is facing an uncertain future in Bavaria, as his current contract expires at the end of the season. Sule has appeared quite calm about his future, but he will be aware of his precarious situation in the Bayern defence.
Indeed, the German Rekordmeister have quite a few talented options at the back including the French duo of Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez that has been doing really well recently. Not to mention, the Bavarians have been linked with a swoop for Chelsea’s very own Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer.
Rudiger has a contract with Chelsea that expires at the end of the season. The defender has appeared reluctant to extend his deal amid interest from a host of top clubs across Europe. In addition to him, the Blues are also set to lose out on the services of Thiago Silva, whose contract also expires next summer.
The potential arrival of the former VfB Stuttgart defender should leave Sule behind in the pecking order, meaning a move away from Allianz Arena could be the more logical choice for the player. Chelsea, to that end, have established itself as one of the ideal destinations.
With a total of 200 appearances in the Bundesliga, Sule’s experience at the highest level of football coupled with his imposing presence and physical attributes make him a tailor-made fit for the Premier League. At Chelsea, he can be considered as a direct replacement for not only Rudiger but also Silva, as the European champions look to build a new defensive core.
That said, Niklas Sule isn’t the only option for Thomas Tuchel. In fact, the German tactician has identified quite a few alternatives including Villarreal’s defensive stalwart Pau Torres whilst retaining interest in Kounde despite his failed move to Stamford Bridge at the end of last month.
