Manchester City and Liverpool have registered interest in the services of Napoli’s in-demand forward Victor Osimhen.
According to the latest report from Fichajes, Victor Osimhen has attracted interest from Premier League, with Liverpool and Manchester City among clubs keen on the Napoli forward, along with Leicester City. The attacker has already emerged as one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market, thanks to his brisk start to the new season.
Formerly of VfL Wolfsburg, the 22-year-old Osimhen joined Napoli last summer in an eye-catching €70 million move from LOSC Lille in 2020. He initially had a difficult start to life in Italy, scoring just two goals during the first half of his debut campaign, leading many to question his quality and Napoli’s decision to spend big money.
But the striker soon proved himself, finishing the 2020/21 season on a strong note. And under new coach Luciano Spalletti, the forward is starting to live up to his potential, having already netted six goals in six matches so far. His performances have been crucial in helping the Partenopei sensationally lead the Serie A table with six wins in six matches.
Unsurprisingly, Osimhen’s exploits have also attracted Liverpool, who are in the market for a new striker that can potentially prove to be an upgrade over Roberto Firmino. Few names have already been discussed at Anfield, including Karim Adeyemi.
They are even reportedly in talks with the RB Salzburg starlet over a future move to Merseyside, but in Osimhen, Jurgen Klopp could find himself a more established star with more experience at the highest level of football.
The Reds are not the only club to be interested in the Napoli forward, though. They are set to face stiff competition from league rivals Manchester City, whose shortcomings in the number nine department is well-documented, notably missing out on the summer pursuit of Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It appears the Citizens have diversified their interests. With Kane off to a dodgy start to the campaign, Pep Guardiola is open to exploring other players, having already been linked with a move for Wolves’ Raul Jimenez.
Osimhen, to that end, could be another potential alternative. His speed, dynamism and goalscoring prowess could make him an exciting option upfront for not only Manchester City but Liverpool as well, as the two clubs look to add more juice in their offensive unit next season.
