Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old Colombian attacker Luis Diaz, who could cost just €30 million next summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Barcelona are set to step up their efforts to sign Luis Diaz, with Joan Laporta himself keen on the addition of the 24-year-old Colombian international, who is likely to cost around €30 million.
Luis Diaz joined FC Porto from Junior FC in the summer of 2019 and has come leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. Now a key figure for the Portuguese giants as well as the Colombian national side, Diaz has kicked off the 2021/22 campaign on a strong note, with five goals and an assist in eight appearances so far.
His tremendous progress has invariably captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs across Europe, and was heavily linked with a major summer move before choosing to stay put at Porto. However, the interest from the prospective suitors has only grown, with Barcelona among the clubs to have joined the race to sign the 24-year-old attacker.
The interest from Barcelona is interesting but understandable, considering the attacking unit is in desperate need of an injection of creativity and goals at the moment. While Memphis Depay seems to be a solid addition to the first-team squad, Luuk de Jong does not inspire much confidence whereas Sergio Aguero is yet to even make his debut for the Blaugrana.
Ansu Fati is likely to be a long-term solution for Barcelona, and is the club’s big hope in the post-Lionel Messi era. However, Ousmane Dembele’s fitness woes mean the Catalan giants are often forced to remain shortchanged in the attacking department, which is why bolstering the frontline is imperative.
To that end, Diaz is a viable target for Barcelona, who appear set to step up their efforts to secure his services at the earliest possible opportunity. And the 24-year-old will not cost a bomb either, with the expectation being that his price tag will be around the €30 million mark.
Having said that, amid their financial crunch, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can afford to spend even €30 million on Diaz. For now, though, the Colombian international has emerged as a key target for the club keeping the future transfer windows in mind.
