Manchester City are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing 23-year-old French utility man Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City are keen on signing Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in next summer’s transfer window. The 23-year-old French utility man is also the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Christopher Nkunku joined RB Leipzig from PSG in the summer of 2019 after failing to foresee the prospect of securing regular game-time in the first-team setup at Parc des Princes. Over the last two years, the player has gone from strength to strength and has featured week in week out for Leipzig.
While the 23-year-old saw his performance levels dipping after a brilliant 2019/20 campaign, he still remains a key figure for the Bundesliga giants, having amassed 91 appearances to date for Die Roten Bullen while chipping in with 16 goals and 28 assists along the way. His progress over the last two years has duly been noticed, with Manchester City among his suitors.
The interest from Manchester City is interesting, seeing as they already have a stacked midfield and attacking units. However, with Raheem Sterling facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, it is understandable why the reigning Premier League champions would be keeping an eye on someone like Nkunku.
Apart from Sterling, Bernardo Silva could also be offloaded by Manchester City if they receive an acceptable bid for him. So, Nkunku appears to be a viable target for the Citizens, especially with his versatility, which ought to be revered by Pep Guardiola, seeing as he could reprise several role in the side.
Manchester City, though, are not the only club hot on the trails of Nkunku, with PSG considering the prospect of re-signing the 23-year-old, who is viewed as an alternative to Paul Pogba amid the Frenchman’s links with Real Madrid. In addition, Bayern Munich are also interested in him.
Manchester City recently got a close-up view of Nkunku and his talents, in their win over Leipzig, wherein the French utility man starred with a hat-trick. What now remains to be seen is if City firm up their interest in Nkunku, or if PSG or Bayern manage to swoop him away from Leipzig instead.
