Chelsea are reportedly ready to step up their pursuit of AS Monaco and France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also a target for Juventus.
According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Chelsea are ready to accelerate their efforts to try and secure the signing of AS Monaco sensation Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also a target for Juventus.
Tchouameni came through the youth ranks at French club Bordeaux and enjoyed a breakthrough a couple of years ago before making the switch to Monaco in January last year. Since then, the 21-year-old has grown from strength to strength to become one of the best young midfielders in Ligue 1.
Indeed, Tchouameni was named Best Young Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season in France, and he has carried on in the same vein of form this season as well, which has facilitated a breakthrough into the French national team for the midfielder. And, his progress for club and country has not gone unnoticed as Chelsea and Juventus are pushing to sign the 21-year-old.
Chelsea have a fairly stocked midfield department when one factors in the players currently out on loan like Billy Gilmour, Conor Gallagher apart from the existing contingent of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek as well as deadline day arrival, Saul Niguez, although it remains to be seen if he is signed on a permanent basis.
Nevertheless, Chelsea will need to add another central midfielder to their ranks in the near future as Kante has entered his thirties and has struggled with fitness problems quite a fair bit over the past year. Furthermore, his contract will also run out in the summer of 2023, meaning future-proofing the midfield department becomes imperative for the Blues.
A move for AC Milan star Franck Kessie has been mooted in the past, but it seems like Tchouameni has emerged as the top target for Chelsea as things stand. The report states that the west London giants are ready to ramp up their efforts to land the 21-year-old Frenchman amid rising interest from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Blues are understood to be readying a tempting proposal for Monaco in order to lure him to Stamford Bridge. Given his age and potential, Tchouameni can be a fine addition for the Chelsea midfield in the short and long run. What remains to be seen is if a formal approach is made for the 21-year-old in January or the summer next year.
