Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old German international Leon Goretzka on a free transfer next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid have already started to lay down the plans for next summer’s transfer window, which is likely to be one wherein they will be making some major changes to the first-team squad. One of the potential additions could be Leon Goretzka, who is being eyed for a Bosman move.
Leon Goretzka has come leaps and bounds since joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2018 following an acrimonious exit from Schalke as a free agent. The move to the Allianz Arena has done wonders to his career, with the 26-year-old German midfielder becoming a regular feature for club and country.
To date, Goretzka has made 118 appearances for Bayern Munich while chipping in with 25 goals and 26 assists in the process. The Bundesliga champions, though, are in a precarious position over his future, as he has entered the final year of his contract at the club. Such a situation has alerted a number of top clubs, with Real Madrid also keen on signing him.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable despite the arrival of Eduardo Camavinga this past summer. That is because both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are well into their thirties, meaning laying down a succession plan for the duo is imperative.
While Federico Valverde is also at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, there is very little in terms of quality options beyond him. So, signing a central midfielder, especially if he arrives on a free transfer, will make a lot of sense for Real Madrid, who are also scouring the possibility of signing Paul Pogba.
Having said that, there are widespread suggestions that Goretzka is likely to put pen to a new long-term contract with Bayern Munich, having previously not accepted the terms on offer from the German giants. If that ends up being the case, Real Madrid’s interest could well wane.

So, for all intents and purposes, Real Madrid will be hoping that Goretzka’s negotiations with Bayern Munich over a new deal break down. If that ends up being the case, we can expect the Merengues to make their move for the 26-year-old German international soon enough.
