Chelsea are joined by Juventus in the race to sign France’s latest midfield sensation, Aurelien Tchouameni.
According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Juventus are on the hunt for Aurelien Tchouameni as they look to further strengthen their midfield ranks after signing Manuel Locatelli in the summer. However, they are set to face stiff competition from Chelsea, in the pursuit of the AS Monaco starlet.
A product of the Bordeaux youth academy, much like Chelsea’s other top target in Jules Kounde, Tchouameni was approached by multiple clubs in the summer. But a transfer did not materialise, with Monaco persistent on keeping hold of their prized midfielder, though it appears they might have to loosen their stance as time progresses.
Juventus have already stepped up their pursuit of the young Frenchman, which might be good news for Aston Villa as it will force them to part ways with Weston McKennie. The American international has recently emerged as a priority January target for the Villans.
As far as Tchouameni is concerned, the 21-year-old’s rise to prominence over the past year or so has been nothing short of extraordinary. He is already considered as one of Europe’s most talented midfield assets and was recently rewarded with a call-up to the French national team, during the international break.
The 21-year-old featured in 36 league matches for Monaco last term and was expected to make his presence felt in the UEFA Champions League this time around, but unfortunately, his team was knocked out of the qualifying round to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Nevertheless, the likes of Chelsea remain interested in Tchouameni, with coach Thomas Tuchel likely view him as an ideal long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante, who is in his thirties and has battled with injuries. Furthermore, with Jorginho’s agent once again hinting at a move to Italy in the near future, someone like Tchouameni could become an option worth looking at for Chelsea.
But it remains to be seen whether they can beat off competition from Juventus. Not to mention, AS Monaco have every right to ask for a fortune, for the services of the young prospect, who appears to be more than ready to take the next big step in his career.
