Real Madrid are reportedly the frontrunners to sign Erling Haaland, who is also wanted by Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
According to a report from El Bernabeu, Real Madrid are currently leading the race to secure the signing of Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, who is also a transfer target for arch-rivals Erling Haaland as well as Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City.
Haaland has grown into one of the most potent goalscorers in Europe since his breakthrough at RB Salzburg a couple of years ago. Having made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, the 21-year-old has just gone from strength to strength, stunning the fans with his amazing goalscoring abilities.
To date, Haaland has already plundered 63 goals in 64 games for the Black and Yellows, putting himself on the radars of each and every top club in Europe. In fact, the likes of Chelsea and later PSG tried hard to sign the Norwegian international this past summer, but a move was not forthcoming as Dortmund slapped a massive price tag on his head.
However, that is set to change in the summer next year as a release clause worth €75 million is set to come to effect in 2022, which is set to spark a huge transfer chase for Haaland in 2022. Manchester City are among the clubs interested, having failed to sign Harry Kane this summer as they seek a long-term replacement for departed club legend Sergio Aguero.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are said to have made Haaland a top priority for next summer despite having brought in Cristiano Ronaldo. Edinson Cavani will be out of contract at the end of the season while Ronaldo himself will be entering the final year of his deal and would have turned 37, meaning it makes sense for the Red Devils to secure a long-term solution to their centre-forward department.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, were among the clubs that wanted to sign Haaland this year but were hamstrung by their financial issues. However, a plan is already in place to secure the Norwegian international as well as another top target in Kylian Mbappe in the summer transfer window next year as they look to replace Karim Benzema and create a super-attacking tandem.
Barcelona, too, were linked with Haaland earlier this year. And, as per the report, despite their poor financial health, the Catalans remain hopeful of grabbing the signing of the 21-year-old, as they look to address the shock departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.
However, the report adds that it is Real Madrid remain the frontrunners to secure Haaland’s signing. Even though there is the possibility of his release clause being raised to €90 million, the Merengues are currently being billed as the favourites ahead of the aforementioned clubs along with Bayern Munich.
In fact, it has previously been claimed that Los Blancos already have a pre-agreement in place to sign the 21-year-old. It remains to be seen if that is indeed the case or if Real Madrid get beaten to his signing by their fellow suitors.
