Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in talks to sign Ruben Neves, who is also a target for Manchester United and is valued at around €40 million by Wolves.
According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida, Tottenham Hotspur appear to have joined the race to sign Ruben Neves before the summer transfer window slams shut. The north Londoners are currently locked in negotiations for the Portuguese midfielder, who is also being tailed by Manchester United and has a €40 million price tag.
Ruben Neves has been a key component of the first-team setup at the Molineux since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from FC Porto in the summer of 2017. After playing a major role in their promotion-winning campaign to the Premier League, the 24-year-old has been critical in ensuring that Wolves have become a household Premier League name now.
To date, Neves has made 179 appearances for Wolves while chipping in with 20 goals and 10 assists along the way. His progress in the last four years have created several admirers, with many clubs being heavily linked with the Portuguese international in recent years. Ahead of the transfer deadline this summer, Manchester United and Tottenham are hot on his trails.
Manchester United have been linked with Neves more heavily than any other club, and their continued interest in the player makes sense. If the initial games this season have shown anything, it is that the Red Devils are top heavy and need some solidity in midfield to complete the final piece of their puzzle.
Indeed, Fred struggled for a second successive game when Manchester United paid Wolves a visit this past weekend, a game in which Neves shone. However, United are now facing stiff competition from rivals Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the 24-year-old.
The interest from Tottenham is hardly surprising, considering Moussa Sissoko has joined Watford while Tanguy Ndombele is not a part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans. As a result, Spurs have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, including Ilaix Moriba and Yves Bissouma, although the Barcelona midfielder is now set to join RB Leipzig. And Neves is a viable target as well for Tottenham.
As per Pedro Almeida, Tottenham are currently in talks to sign Neves on a long-term deal whereas Manchester United are also pondering a late swoop. Meanwhile, Renato Sanches is being viewed as a long-term replacement for his compatriot, with Wolves reportedly closing in on signing him on loan.
Finally, his price tag might be a bone of contention for suitors, with Wolves demanding €40 million in exchange of his services. What now remains to be seen is if either of Manchester United and Tottenham are open to shelling out such a sum to land Neves or if he stays put at the Molineux.
