Romelu Lukaku is reportedly keen on moving back to Chelsea after the Champions League holders made a massive bid for the Belgian striker.
According to The Sun, Romelu Lukaku could move back to Chelsea if a transfer opportunity arises. The Blues have already made an official bid in the last few days. However, Inter Milan would only consider selling him if an offer above £100 million arrives from the Champions League holders for the former Manchester United forward.
In the last few days, Chelsea have seemingly shifted their focus from Erling Haaland to Romelu Lukaku. The Premier League giants now remain interested in the Belgian and have already made an £85 million-plus Marcos Alonso bid to Inter Milan, which the Italian champions rejected.
The report suggests the striker feels he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge, where he played early in his career. Lukaku earned big moves to Everton and then Manchester United between his time at Chelsea and Inter Milan. After a turbulent period at Manchester United, Antonio Conte enticed the Belgian forward to move to San Siro.
The ‘unfinished business’ might be a factor because Lukaku never proved his worth in Chelsea colours. However, the latest interest could also be an opportunity for the Belgian to make one last big move in his career. There are no suggestions he is unhappy at Inter Milan, although he could welcome a new chapter in his career.
Inter Milan are in a financial mess and have to raise funds by offloading marketable. The Italian champions have already sold Achraf Hakimi to PSG in a big-money deal. They are now looking to offload either Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez, with the latter attracting interest from Arsenal.
Eventually, the club will likely sell only one of their forwards, as seeing them both depart will be a huge blow for their ambitions next season, especially after winning Serie A last term. However, a huge bid for Lukaku could be forthcoming in the coming days, and Inter will find it hard to turn down an offer from Chelsea.
Chelsea have been chasing Erling Haaland but could not agree over Borussia Dortmund’s fee demands. They seemingly switched their attention towards Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and have now shifted their focus on Lukaku.
The Belgian forward seems the likeliest option among the aforementioned names to join Chelsea, and the Blues are expected to push through a move. Inter are demanding at least £100 million for the former Manchester United striker, and the Premier League side could meet those demands.
Will Lukaku prove his worth at Chelsea the second time of asking? Only time will tell, and it won’t be surprising to see him don the Blue kit again from the way things are going.
