Tottenham are widening their striker search and have identified Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic as their priority forward target this summer.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are keen on signing Disan Vlahovic this summer as Nuno Espirito Santo eyes a striker to play alongside Harry Kane. Fiorentina reportedly are demanding more than £40 million, which could become a sticking point for Spurs in their pursuit of the striker.
Tottenham, under new technical director Fabio Paratici, are making several moves in this transfer window. The new formula seems to target plenty of players for a single position and expect to strike a deal with one of them. Spurs are pursuing that particular strategy with their striker search, with many targets linked in the past weeks.
However, Paratici has identified Dusan Vlahovic as his priority target, although the Serbian will cost more than £40 million. Tottenham have other alternatives that carry lower price tags. Crotone forward Simy is one such target, expected to be available for a cut-price after his club’s relegation from Serie A.
Danny Ings was also of interest earlier. The Southampton striker, 29, has refused to commit to new terms at St. Mary’s as he eyes a switch to a top-six club. However, since the last few weeks, Paratici seems to have diverted his focus to Italy and targeting several players.
After widening his net in search of a viable striker, Paratici has made Vlahovic his priority target. After a 21-goal Serie A season, Vlahovic is a man in demand, with Fiorentina fielding plenty of interest. Tottenham would want to reduce that asking price or will move on to alternate targets. However, there are indications that the club is willing to spend big this summer, to add quality players to their squad.
The club are also reportedly in talks for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero and with Bologna for Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu. Elsewhere, Spurs recently signed Bryan Gil from Sevilla, with Erik Lamela going the other way. However, the club wants a striker to play alongside Harry Kane next season instead of being a replacement for Kane.
A recent report suggested Tottenham were ready to let Kane leave if man City coughs up £160 million. However, that does not seem to be the case, with Spurs insisting the striker will remain at the club.
Kane’s future is still in major doubt after the England captain himself told the club his desire to leave to achieve major honours. However, Tottenham’s massive valuation is putting off suitors, although Manchester City are still expected to make another offer before the window shuts.
As for Vlahovic, it will be a difficult transition from playing in Serie A to joining a club in the Premier League. However, his gameplay has shown great promise, and he could succeed at Tottenham if he is to sign up. The question remains about Fiorentina’s asking price and if Spurs will pay up.
