Newcastle United are reportedly ready to rival Manchester City and Liverpool in pursuit of Boubacar Kamara, available for just £15 million.
A recent report from Daily Mirror has shed light on the future of Boubacar Kamara. The Marseille midfielder is tipped to leave France in the summer, with the Ligue 1 outfit ready to cash in due to the ongoing pandemic.
Valued at £15 million, Kamara is courted by both Manchester City and Liverpool. However, it is Newcastle United who are ready to make a move for the talented midfielder, as Steve Bruce attempts to shore up his options in the middle of the park.
A product of the Marseille youth academy, Kamara has been a first-team regular for the club for three seasons. He has 122 competitive appearances to his name, which is quite impressive for a 21-year-old.
Although a defensive midfielder by trade, the Frenchman can operate as a centre-back. It is a particularly appealing prospect for Newcastle, who had also been linked with a move for Arsenal’s William Saliba, though it appears the youngster could be set for a move to Marseille.
In fact, the French outfit have been quite busy in the market so far, bringing in Cengiz Under, Gerson and Konrad de la Fuente while Pau Lopez and Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi joined on loan. It paves the way for Marseille to cash in on Kamara, who is one of Liverpool’s many options in their quest to bolster the midfield department.
Jurgen Klopp has already appeared desperate to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, although the German is primarily looking at creative options. The Reds are reportedly closing in on the capture of Renato Sanches. But the addition of someone like Kamara should offer defensive resistance in midfield whilst also offering an option at centre-back.
Manchester City are another potential destination for the French midfielder, with Pep Guardiola ready to shore up his options in the middle of the park. He is particularly looking for a long-term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.
Much like the Brazilian, Kamara is a defence-minded midfielder who can operate at centre-back. And for a fee of £15 million, he may turn out to be a bargain for a club that typically likes to spend lavishly in the transfer market. However, the entry of Newcastle United complicates matters for both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Newcastle United are heavily linked with a move for Arsenal youngster Joe Willock but look set to remain in the market for another midfielder as Steve Bruce looks to beef up his squad and stave off relegation in a more efficient manner in the upcoming season. What now remains to be seen is if Newcastle launch the offensive by lodging a £15 million offer, beating Liverpool and Manchester City to his services.
