Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of completing the deal to sign Renato Sanches, who is expected to cost around €37 million excluding add-ons.
Fichajes journalist Pedro Almeida has offered an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Renato Sanches. It appears the LOSC Lille midfielder is closing on the move to Merseyside, with the Premier League giants ready to splash out €37 million excluding add-ons.
If completed, Sanches would become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer. He is likely to be handed a salary of €4.5 million per season in addition to the €2 million signing fees. The Reds are also expected to pay €3 million to Lille in add-ons, provided certain objectives are met.
The Portuguese international has enjoyed a swift renaissance in his career after three disappointing years at Bayern Munich. Since moving to LOSC Lille in 2019, the midfielder has established himself as a key component in Christophe Galtier’s setup that shocked everyone by winning the Ligue 1 title this past season.
Sanches’ revival helped him regain his place in the national Portugal side as well. In fact, he was one of the nation’s few bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign that saw the defending champions being knocked out of the Round of 16 by Belgium.
Liverpool’s interest in Sanches likely stems from their desire to find a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman has created a massive void in the club’s midfield unit after joining Paris Saint-Germain, forcing Jurgen Klopp to scour the market for potential replacements.
Earlier in the summer, the Reds were heavily linked with a move for Florian Neuhaus. However, it appears the German international is set for an extended stay at Borussia Monchengladbach, despite the departure of head coach Marco Rose.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s midfield sensation Saul Niguez. They have reportedly given the green light to make an offer for the Spanish international, but the player is likely to cost a fortune.
As such, Renato Sanches has emerged as the ideal target for Liverpool as they look to recover after a difficult season. At Anfield, the Portuguese international is set to reunite with former Bayern Munich teammate Thiago Alcantara. It will be interesting to see how the two gel under Jurgen Klopp after struggling under Carlo Ancelotti.
