Manchester City have reportedly agreed an £88 million transfer fee Aston Villa for the signing of England international Jack Grealish this summer.
According to an exclusive report from Caught Offside, reigning Premier League champions are on the verge of sealing the deal for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, having agreed a transfer fee of £88 million with the Midlands’ outfit.
Grealish has been one of the best players on display in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons after he helped Aston Villa to promotion from the EFL Championship. Having helped the Villans survive the drop in the 2019/20 term, the 25-year-old was once again their best player in the 2020/21 season even though he spent a significant time out on the sidelines with an injury.
Grealish ended the last season with a return of seven goals and twelve assists from 27 appearances across all competitions. Given how well he has been performing, it was only a matter of time before the big clubs started to line up to secure his services. Indeed, the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in the Englishman, and it seems like the latter are set to clinch his signing this summer.
Manchester City are filled with options in midfield and attack, with Pep Guardiola being able to call upon Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, and Raheem Sterling. However, they never replaced David Silva after he left the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2019 and Grealish, who can play as a No. 10, on the left flank or even as a No. 8 in a three-man midfield, could be seen as that replacement.
The 25-year-old’s potential acquisition makes a lot of sense for Manchester City amid serious speculations surrounding the future of Sterling, while Bernardo Silva also has his heart set on an exit, as per recent reports. It had been claimed that Manchester City were planning to make a formal approach for the Aston Villa captain once the UEFA Euro 2020 was out of the way, but things seem to have accelerated quickly.
According to the aforementioned report, the Premier League champions have come to an agreement with the Midlands’ club for a transfer fee of £88 million. In addition, it also states that Grealish will be signing a five-year contract with Manchester City, with an announcement set to be made immediately after the UEFA Euro 2020 is over.
This could also spell the end of Sterling or Mahrez’s career at the Etihad, with the Cityzens now open to serious offers for the attacking duo, the report further claims. So, it seems like Grealish will soon become a Manchester City player and could very well be followed by his England captain Harry Kane, who has also been linked with a switch to the Mancunians.
