Liverpool are eyeing a summer swoop for Aston Villa’s teenage sensation Carney Chukwuemeka, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich also involved in the chase.
According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Carney Chukwuemeka’s days at Aston Villa could be numbered as the youngster continues to attract interest from European heavyweights, including Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Part of the Aston Villa academy since 2016, Chukwuemeka is highly regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in England. The 17-year-old is often looked at in the same category as Jude Bellingham, the former Birmingham City whizkid who is finding immense success since joining Borussia Dortmund last summer.
It has put Liverpool on red alert as they attempt to poach the young midfielder, whose current contract at Aston Villa expires in 2023. The Villans, though, are determined to offer the teenage sensation a new deal as soon as he turns 18, later this year.
The Reds are in for a busy transfer window, especially after a disastrous campaign in the Premier League. Chukwuemeka could be a part of that squad revamp, as Jurgen Klopp looks to reshape the midfield unit and find a replacement for Bayern Munich linked Georginio Wijnaldum, whose contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.
Another club in contention to sign Chukwuemeka, however, is Manchester City. The Citizens are expected to be an attractive destination this summer, following a hugely successful Premier League campaign.
The Citizens are also huge favourites in the Champions League this season, especially after securing a 2-1 away advantage ahead of their second leg semi-final clash against PSG. From a sporting perspective, though, Chukwuemeka’s chances of breaking into the Manchester City might be a little difficult and that could play a key role in giving Liverpool the upper hand in the chase.
However, the biggest obstacle for these two Premier League giants, in the pursuit of Chukwuemeka, is the interest from Bayern Munich. In fact, the report suggests the Bundesliga giants are in pole position to secure the services of the 17-year-old in the summer.
The Bavarians are set for a summer of rebuild, especially after appointing Julian Nagelsmann, who is known for his ability to nurture young talents. He has already had major success on that front at RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim, making Bayern an appealing option for Chukwuemeka.
The youngster’s future, though, is still largely at the hands of his current employers, knowing Aston Villa are in the best shape to offer him the opportunity to integrate himself in the Premier League next season. Having said that, it will be interesting to see if any of Liverpool, Manchester City or Bayern Munich can swoop the teenage sensation away this summer instead.
