Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of securing the transfer of Juventus attacker Dejan Kulusevski in the summer window.
According to a report from Italian outlet Il Bianconero, Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are considering a raid on Serie A champions Juventus for the potential signing of Dejan Kulusevski in the upcoming transfer window.
Kulusevski, 21, started his footballing education at the academy of IF Bromma in his homeland, Sweden, before switching to Italian outfit Atalanta in the summer of 2016. The winger impressed heavily for the club’s Under-17 side as well as the Primavera outfit, managing to break into the first-team setup in January 2019.
However, he managed just three appearances for La Dea before sealing a loan move to Parma in the summer of 2019. Having done exceptionally in the first half of the 2019/20 campaign Kulusevski prompted Juventus to sign him up in January last year before letting him complete the season on loan at Parma itself, where he ended the term with a haul of 10 goals and 9 assists from 39 matches.
Having arrived at Juventus in the summer last year, the 21-year-old has found it hard to repeat his exploits with the champions. Matters have not been helped by the tinkering of positions by manager Andrea Pirlo, who has deployed him as a striker, a winger and even a wing-back on a few occasions. As a result, he has managed a paltry tally of six goals and four assists from 41 games in all competitions in 2020/21.
Despite his struggles in Turin, it seems like Kulusevski’s stock remains quite high, with Manchester United keeping close tabs on the Swedish forward. The Red Devils are in the market for reinforcements in the attacking unit, especially the right wing, that has been a problem position for the club for a number of years now.
Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona has been touted as a key target, with Manchester United even believed to be willing to shell out €50 million for his services. But having suffered from putting all their eggs in a single Jadon Sancho-shaped basket last summer, it seems like the 20-time English champions have learned their lessons and are keeping their options open.
To that end, Slavia Prague’s Abdallah Sima has also been mentioned as a potential transfer target recently while Kulusevski has also emerged as an alternative that Manchester United are looking at to strengthen the position. The Red Devils have come forward to see if there are any possibilities of swooping away the 21-year-old at the end of the current season.
However, a move is unlikely to materialise as Juventus rate the Swedish forward very highly and see him as an integral part of the future of the club, as per the report. Plus, with his contract running till the summer of 2025, the Bianconeri are in a position where they don’t need to sell either. So, it will be quite surprising if Kulusevski ends up at Manchester United ahead of the next season.
