Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Nicolas Tagliafico over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Nicolas Tagliafico has popped up on the radar of Manchester United over a move in the summer transfer window. The Argentine international is likely to leave Ajax, who are set to demand €26 million in exchange for his services.
Tagliafico has gone on to establish himself as one of the best full-backs on show in Europe since joining Ajax from Independiente in January 2018. Over the last three years or so, the 28-year-old has been a pivotal figure for the Dutch giants, amassing 138 appearances while chipping in with 13 goals and 19 assists.
His progress over the course of his Ajax stint has meant that Tagliafico has been heavily linked with a number of top clubs across Europe. Heading into the summer transfer window, it is being claimed that the Argentine international is set to leave Ajax, with this situation piquing the interest of Manchester United.
The interest from Manchester United comes as a bit of a surprise and not least because of the resurgence that Luke Shaw. The English international has been in tremendous form this season while also having established himself as a key player for the Red Devils.
Apart from Shaw, Manchester United also have Alex Telles in the squad, even though he has been a rotation option so far. Although, Telles has been linked with a bizarre exit from Old Trafford as part of a swap deal. Even if the Brazilian full-back ends up calling it quits at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have someone like Brandon Williams to fall back on.
Tagliafico, even if he joins, will likely be the second-choice left-back behind the indomitable Shaw. Nevertheless, it looks like Manchester United could make a move for Tagliafico, who is valued at around €26 million by Ajax.
Meanwhile, apart from Manchester United, Premier League rivals Leeds United are also tailing the 28-year-old. Having said that, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils manage to secure the services of Tagliafico ahead of the 2021/22 season, or if they choose not to sign a left-back.
