Chelsea are prepared to splash €100 million to sign Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku, as the desired alternative for Erling Haaland.
An exclusive report from Calciomercato has shed some light on the future of Romelu Lukaku. The Inter Milan forward is enjoying a stellar campaign in Serie A but it appears he could be set for a move away from Milan this summer, with a return to Premier League seemingly a possibility.
Chelsea and Manchester City are already keen on securing the services of Lukaku next season, with the Blues, in particular, prepared to shell out as much as €100 million. It is believed that he has been identified as the primary alternative for top target Erling Haaland for both these clubs, while Barcelona too have expressed their desire to sign the centre-forward.
Lukaku’s current contract at Inter expires in 2024 but the club’s struggles in Europe, combined with the uncertainty regarding the owners could force the striker to reconsider his future.
The Belgian international should find no shortage of suitors if he does choose to leave Inter, having netted as many as 21 goals in just 28 matches in the league this season. He is already the second-highest goalscorer in the Serie A so far, with his contributions in front of goal playing a critical role behind the Nerazzurri‘s complete dominance in the Italian top flight.
A return to Chelsea, in that regard, would be an interesting switch, considering how he was never really given an opportunity to prove his qualities, during his time at Stamford Bridge.
The current version of Chelsea, though, makes a strong case for the Belgian as head coach Thomas Tuchel could certainly use his physical stature as well as an improved technical prowess, in the new possession-oriented setup that has significantly improved the club’s defensive record.
Although Tuchel and Antonio Conte are stylistically very different coaches, the German can certainly offer Lukaku the creative support he desires with the help of marauding wing-backs as well as the presence of supporting attackers like Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and potentially, Timo Werner.

Although the former Leipzig star has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge following his poor performances in the Premier League, having a strong centre-forward like Lukaku as a partner could certainly help him flourish in front of goal.
