Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to secure the services of Edmond Tapsoba in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Edmond Tapsoba has been offered to each of Barcelona’s presidential candidates by his agent Deco ahead of the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-back has a €40 million price tag.
Tapsoba joined Bayer Leverkusen from Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2020 and has since made rapid progress in his career to quickly establish himself as one of the most promising youngsters in the Bundesliga. A mainstay at the back for Die Werkself, the Burkina Faso international has made 30 appearances across all competitions this term, even chipping in with a couple of goals.
His swift development has not gone unnoticed and his agent Deco has taken the opportunity to offer the 22-year-old to former club Barcelona and each of their presidential candidates. And, as per the report, the Catalan giants could consider a summer move for the player.
Barcelona are already set to bolster the heart of their defence in the summer transfer window by signing Eric Garcia on a free transfer. However, it is not a given that the Blaugrana’s central defensive recruitments will stop at just one in the upcoming window, and for good reason.
Gerard Pique is on the wrong side of 30 and is seemingly fast approaching the end of his glittering career. In addition, Samuel Umtiti’s injury woes are well documented, whereas Clement Lenglet has become a problematic figure for Barcelona this season due to his inconsistent performances.
That leaves Ronald Koeman with youngsters Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza as the only other centre-backs at his disposal, thereby necessitating the possible arrival of another centre-back and making Tapsoba a viable target. Having said that, Bayer Leverkusen value the 22-year-old at €40 million, a figure that could be prohibitive for Barcelona.
Having said that, the report mentions that Deco is hoping to make good on his ties with Barcelona by trying to lower the cost of the operation in other ways whilst also keeping Leverkusen happy. For now, Eric Garcia is the only centre-back set to arrive at Camp Nou, although Tapsoba could well be on his way to Barcelona as well if the economic conditions allow them to do so.
