Chelsea reportedly remain keen on signing David Alaba, who is also a target for Real Madrid, with Thomas Tuchel raring to gain momentum at Stamford Bridge.
According to a report from Goal, Chelsea are interested to get their hands on 28-year-old David Alaba from Bayern Munich. The Austrian international is also the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible Bosman deal in the summer transfer window.
The Bayern Munich defender, who has been a puissant figure for the Bavarians over the years, is now being targeted by two of the world’s biggest clubs in Real Madrid and Chelsea. Alaba’s presence in the backline not only could strengthen the duo’s defensive unit, but his firmly decorated competence will also provide an extra edge into their squads.
Due to the expiration of his contract in the present club, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has been desperate to assemble the Austrian international in his scheme, with the Whites establishing themselves as the unwavering favorites to snatch him on a free transfer.
But, of late, Barcelona had emerged in his pursuit, with the Catalans seeking a centre-back, seeing as Gerard Pique is in the twilight of his career. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s newly appointed manager Tuchel needs to ensure his place in a trice, and in a period where the Blues have been struggling to resolve their fragility at the back, the former PSG boss could do with someone like Alaba.
With Thiago Silva in the last stages of his career, Chelsea do need to keep an eye out on a possible successor, especially with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen blowing hot and cold. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are in a precarious position owing to the uncertain future of captain Sergio Ramos.
Therefore, a spicy transfer battle seems to be setting up, as far as the race to sign Alaba is concerned. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea do end taking decisive steps in order to land the Bayern Munich superstar on a free transfer in the summer, or if his desire to play for Real Madrid takes him to the Spanish capital.
