Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz is reportedly prepared to snub Liverpool if Bayern Munich come after him this summer.
According to Sky Sports, as relayed by TransferMarketWeb, Kai Havertz has made a decision on his future. The Bayer Leverkusen star prefers a move to Bayern Munich and is ready to snub Liverpool in the process. He believes the Allianz Arena could be an ideal destination for him as he seeks to take the next step in his career.
This could serve as a massive blow for Liverpool. After failing to make any major coup in the market for the past 12 months, the Reds will be keen on obtaining a marquee signing in the summer. Havertz, in that regard, would have been an ideal option.
The Bayer Leverkusen star is already regarded as one of the best playmakers in European football. An attacking midfielder, by trade, Havertz could have potentially been an upgrade over the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He could have seamlessly slotted in the additional midfield slot of Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3.
Moreover, Havertz is quite familiar with the high pressing game that is often implemented by current Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz. That means he could find it very easy to settle into Liverpool’s Gegenpressing style of football under Klopp.
As for Bayern Munich, they are yet to register a concrete interest in Havertz at the moment. In fact, the Bavarians actually have a strong midfield department, with Thiago Alcantara back to his old form while Joshua Kimmich has been nailing it, in the holding midfield role.
Leon Goretzka has also done a good job, though Frenchmen Corentin Tolisso and Mickael Cuisance have struggled to make an impact so far.
But at the same time, it is fair to point out that Bayern may lack depth in the creative department next season. Philippe Coutinho, who has failed to make the desired impact, is set to return to Camp Nou at the end of the campaign.
As for Ivan Perisic, he has struggled with injuries after returning to Bundesliga in the summer. He, too, will return to Inter Milan at the end of the season. And that’s where the addition of Havertz could make a world of sense.
The German international can operate as the number ten as well as a wide forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation, although Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry start in the wider attacking roles.
But then again, signing a new defender, as well as a new striker, should be Bayern’s number one priority as the German champions seek to reshuffle their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. They have already identified Willian as a potential target.
Not to mention, they could face financial problems while sanctioning a move for Havertz, potentially giving Liverpool an upper hand. So it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape in the coming months.
