Barcelona are reportedly eyeing Dusan Tadic as a possible alternative to Rodrigo Moreno, whose switch to Camp Nou seems to have stalled.
According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Ajax captain Dusan Tadic is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The La Liga champions are eyeing the Serbian forward as a possible alternative to Rodrigo Moreno, whose reported switch to Camp Nou could be off.
Barcelona have been in a desperate need of a striker since Luis Suarez was rendered a long-term absentee after undergoing surgery on his troublesome knee. There are suggestions that the Uruguayan international could be done for the season, which leaves Antoine Griezmann as the only recognised option to be deployed as the striker.
To that end, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Rodrigo Moreno, who has reportedly been on their radar for quite some time now. The latest updates had suggested that the Spanish international was on the verge of completing the switch to Camp Nou.
Some reports had even suggested that Barcelona were plotting a move for Bruno Fernandes, who they intended to use as a makeweight to sign Rodrigo from Valencia. However, as per Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations between Barcelona and Valencia for the 28-year-old have stalled.
With not long left for the January transfer window to slam shut, Barcelona are now having to identify potential alternatives for the Rodrigo deal. To that end, Dusan Tadic has emerged as a possible target for the La Liga champions.
Tadic has enjoyed a renaissance in his career since joining Ajax from Southampton in the summer of 2018. Such has been his impact for the Dutch giants that he has also been named the club captain and he played a crucial role in their stirring Champions League campaign last season.
In 89 appearances for Ajax, Tadic has a splendid return of 50 goals and 45 assists, excelling in the role of a striker. His exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona now keen on making a move for the 31-year-old before the January transfer window closes. The Serb’s transformation indeed makes him a viable target, who could be a short-term solution for the Catalans.
Having said that, the Blaugrana’s priority would still be to sign Rodrigo, although if they are unable to make any headway in his direction, a move for Tadic could be on the cards. It now remains to be seen how things proceed in the coming hours, as we enter the final three days of the January window.
